Less than a year ago, the Panconi Osvaldo e figli agricultural company planted about fifty trees, including magnolias, limes, palms, and fragrant oleas, free of charge, in a nursery school in Casalguidi, Dire, fare, giocare.
"We couldn't tolerate a very beautiful green park without a single tree. We no longer wanted to see the teachers putting up awnings in the garden in the spring to protect the children from the sun," declared Osvaldo, Manila, and Romina Panconi.
It's one example of how agriculture is integrated into the social fabric of the Pistoia area. Many farms, large and small, support schools, associations, and municipalities. Sometimes coordinated by Coldiretti (also in Casalguidi the Benini, Martini and Pellegrini companies took care of the school garden), and then collaborations with schools in Pescia, or in the various Cino institute buildings in Cireglio, Pavana, Capostrada, Treppio and Pistoia, thanks also to the Il Sottobosco agricultural company.
Acts of generosity and dedication to the community are not always taken into account, especially when it comes to the landscape we discuss in the editorial of this issue of Coldiretti Pistoia Informa, which also states: "Since the 1960s, nursery gardening has assumed the form of a monoculture, extending across the entire plains of Pistoia's agricultural crown." These words sweep away decades-old traditions, such as that of the Panconi farm, which cultivates many types of tall trees, such as magnolias, which now thrive in the school garden.
